Show Caves of Northwest Arkansas

Got a yen for underground exploration? Three nearby show caves offer different looks at what lies beneath the Ozarks.

Cosmic Cavern

Roughly 30 minutes northeast of Eureka Springs, Cosmic Cavern has two underground bottomless lakes, stunning formations, and is an uncommonly warm 62 degrees. The guided tour lasts more than an hour, and after the entry down fairly steep cement steps, the rest of the tour follows a comfortable and safe walkway.
Once you've taken the "tame" tour, cave lovers can take a Wild Cave Tour to hidden parts of the caverns not usually viewed by the public. The cave is open year-round. 6386 Hwy 21 North,  Berryville.  870- 749-2298

Onyx Cave Park

This cave is smaller, and the self-guided tour, complete with headphones, lasts about 30 minutes. The entrance ramps are easy to negotiate, and the trails are not strenuous. Onyx is a chilly cave, around 55 degrees. This is a great cave for those wanting just a taste of the underground, or for those with limited stamina. Handsome formations abound. 338 Onyx Cave Lane, off U.S. 62 East,, Eureka Springs. 479-253-9321

War Eagle Cavern

Walk straight into a mountain through a huge natural entrance on the shores of Beaver Lake. During your one-hour tour, War Eagle Cavern’s story-telling guides make for great fun. After the tour, feed the fish at the boat dock and wander short trails to panoramic views, or pan for authentic gemstones at the War Eagle Mining Company. Kids will love to search for five lost Indian villages in the Lost in the Wood Maze. The gift shop carries unusual souvenirs. Pet and stroller friendly! Located halfway between Eureka Springs and Rogers on Scenic Highway 12. 479-789-2909
